Commercial - Deer - Full Skins

Commercial tan deer is the most commonly used leather for Native American crafts and is generally called "buckskin." By commercial tan, we mean that the hide as been prepared using a mechanical process and chemicals as opposed to the braintanning method which is done by hand using the brains of the animal.

Commercial tan is far more economical than braintan and is suitable for a wide range of projects. We carry a variety of grades and colors which vary frequently. If you need special material for a project and you don't see it on our web site, please email us to check for availability. We can obtain many items on a special order basis that we don't regularly stock.

Commercial Tan Buckskin - Gold - Good Grade

Excellent quality buckskin that is gold in color. Our "good" grade will have minor to moderate holes in the main section of the hide. These skins are great to use for smaller projects like mocassins and bags where large, perfect sections are not required. The smooth side may have some scratches or other scars which is normal for deer.

Note that we sell these hides by the square foot. This ensures that you receive what you pay for. Since hides vary in size (both larger and smaller), your actual price may vary about 10 - 15% from the amount shown. If you need specific dimensions for your project, please be sure to note them in the "special instructions" field on the order form so we can select the proper hide for you.

Beautiful gold buckskin hides. A nice medium weight suitable for most craft projects like moccasins and bags and especially for clothing like shirts, dresses, leggings and other large items. These deer are graded on the suede side and are the best quality we get. If there are any holes, they will be at the edge or no larger than a dime and easy to repair. As they are graded on the suede side, the smooth side may have scratches and other blemishes (very normal for deer).

Light weight commercial tan buckskin in natural smoke color. The weight is lighter than our regular buckskin and will be great for fringe, small bags, mocassins, and other projects. Sueded on both sides.
