Shenandoah, JoanneThe Oneida refer to themselves as "People of the Standing Stone" whose abroiginal lands are in present day central New York State. Ms. Shenandoah's music reflects Native philosophy and culture in its many dimensions. She has performed at Woodstock '94, Earth Day '95, the 1995 Special Olympics as well as giving a privater performance for First Lady Hillary Clinton and Ms. Tipper Gore. In addition, Ms. Shenandoah has appeared on state before enthusiastic audiences throughout North American and Europe. Joanne Shenandoah is one of the most popular female Native American vocalists today. She was selected 1994 Native Musician of the Year by the First Americans in the Arts Foundation for preserving traditional values within the field of contemporary music. |
