Pawnee Bill's Historic Wild West
A Photo Documentary of the 1900-1905 Show Tours
No collection of Indian photographs is complete without selections from the "wild west" shows. These were travelling road shows which brought the "west" to all parts of the country as well as Europe in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The two major shows were put on by Buffalo Bill Cody and Pawnee Bill. This book documents the latter. The wild west shows were an amazing production of horsemanship, shooting, stunts, recreations of the Indian wars, and much more. Native Americans were routinely employed by the shows and always performed in full ceremonial dress. In this collection of photographs, you will the people, the amazingly ornate wagons, the camps, and of course, the shows! An important documentation of some of the most interesting shows in American history.
