Discover American Indian Ways
A Carnegie Activity Book
As Andrew and Sarah Young travel with their parents from their Seattle home to Tennessee, where their grandmother lives, they visit various Native American tribes. They tour a Suquamish museum, attend a Hopi wedding in Arizona and a college graduation at the Rosebud Reservation on the Great Plains, and even take part in a Great Lakes powwow. Full of illustrations and games, the book entertains as it explains the history and lifestyles of each tribe as well as the geography and climate of the land in which each tribe lives. Along with Andrew and Sarah, young readers hear stories of famous Native Americans, beginning with how the Wampanoag tribe shared its resources with the Pilgrims. Readers are presented with a variety of creative projects, all designed by American Indians to help children have fun while they learn.
