The 2010 Indian Country Calendar includes the imagery of four Native artists whose work is the expression of their Native American heritage. Instead of telling stories on painted hides, Ken Blackbird captures the vitality of Plains Indian culture with his camera. Carmen Hunter’s images are an expression of hozho, the Navajo word for harmony and balance in life. She documents her culture in and around Canyon de Chelly on the Navajo Reservation. Mateo Romero mixes the media of photography with bold use of paint to express his appreciation of Puebloan song and dance. David Neel is a Kwagiutl carver, photographer, painter and jewelry designer. His documentary photography of Northwest Coast ceremonies and dances captures the traditional potlatch culture of his people.
