Pattern, Voyagers Shirt
Missouri River Brand Pattern
This loose fitting home-made shirt was everyday wear for the Fur-Traders, “Voyagers”, and Flat-Boat crewman of the Mississippi and Missouri Rivers during the late 18th. and early 19th. Centuries. The blousy fit and gussetted sleeves allow complete freedom of movement and the reinforcements at the shoulders and neck make this a very practical garment to wear when dealing with the rigors of Frontier Life. The Voyagers shirt features a stand-up collar with gathered neck and sleeves and a simple tie closure in front, with long tails that were often tucked into the trousers to serve as an undergarment.
