Souvenir Yellowstone National Park
The Lithographic Albums of F. Jay Haynes
In the summer of 1881, an ambitious 27 year old photographer ventured into Yellowstone National Park for the first time... he became “The Official Photographer of Yellowstone.” Frank J. Haynes established a studio in the Park, one of the first businesses. He captured images of Yellowstone’s earliest years. In 1883, Haynes published a small keepsake album of his photographs using a unique lithographic process, Yellowstone National Park. It is regarded as the first souvenir album produced for Yellowstone. He produced a second lithographic album, Souvenir Yellowstone National Park, in 1889. Both are reprinted here for the first time in exquisite detail from original editions in our collection. Accompanying the albums are more than 200 photographs and illustrations of Yellowstone in the 19th century. Though the souvenir albums and photographs of F. Jay Haynes, we’ll be your tour guide for a historic journey through Yellowstone as it was in the 1880s. Written by your proprietors, Brent & Ryan Schellhase
