Examines the birchbark collection of the Abee Museum in Bar Harbor, Maine, which contains 173 pieces that span the historic period of Wabanaki work in this medium,. Examples of birchbark objects in the collection include open dishes or bowls, covered boxes and buckets sometimes referred to as mocucks. - Split Pouches of Eastern North America
Offers a critical overview of the material, visual and textual evidence for slit pouches in Native North America, and on this basis delineates their distribution, discusses the variation of their forms and their relationships to other artifact types, attempts to make some sense of the meaning embedded in their iconography and ends with some thoughts about their origins. - Nature's Mirror: Images and Artifacts from the Edward S. Curtis Collection
The exhibit on display at the Arizona State Capitol Museum, Phoenix, until December 30, features 23 baskets collected by Curtis as well as an array of Curtis's images, including some photographs in which baskets from Curtis's collection appear.
